3rd Treffpunkt Fundraiser
November 17, 2023
We like to say: "Third Time's a Charm." Well, the 2021 and 2022 events were a success, and we could not be happier with the 3rd edition! It was wonderful to work on the 3rd Fundraiser to benefit the Treffpunkt, the Arizona local nonprofit that promotes the German Language and Culture. Delighted to work with The Honorable Carolin Gey, Honorary Consul of Germany to Arizona, and her team again this year to enhance foreign languages and multiculturalism in Arizona!
The Treffpunkt fundraiser last Friday, November 17, was so fun! Success is not possible without the support and commitment of entertainers, volunteers, great speakers, and benefactors.Thank you to all who helped to make sure the event was a success. Special kudos to our entertainers 15 year old singer Victoria Reiter, pianist Mark Gelfrand, Dancer Dakoa and Magician Robert Ray. Zum Treffpunkt restaurant's Chef and his team also did an amazing job. Wonderful to work again with the Shoen family on this meaningful event, and, of course, delighted to work with Mare Biole, Dieter Bollmann, Yvonne and Tom Schwarz, and our volunteers.

The Marconi Society Awards Gala
Washington D.C.
October 27, 2023
***Reflecting on an Incredible Experience with the Marconi Society**
Over the past few months, our founder Flora Tromelin had the extraordinary opportunity to work with the Marconi Society team, coordinating the 2023 Marconi Society Awards Gala. This prestigious event occurred on October 27th at the Smithsonian in Washington DC.
Established in 1974, the Marconi Prize, often referred to as the “Nobel Prize for Communications,” recognizes innovators who have significantly contributed to increasing digital inclusivity through advanced information and communications technology.
This year, the Marconi Society awarded the Marconi Prize to Dr. Hari Balakrishnan for his "fundamental contributions to wired and wireless networking, mobile sensing, and distributed systems."
Every few years, the Marconi Society presents a rare Lifetime Achievement Award to an individual whose career has made a critical impact on our society. This year, we had the privilege of granting this recognition to Vint Cerf, a true pioneer of the Internet.
“Working on this project was a humbling experience. Collaborating with such an impressive group of innovators, who have made and continue to make considerable contributions to the world, was truly inspiring. I express my deepest gratitude to John Janowiak and Dennis Roberson for their exceptional leadership. I also want to thank my amazing colleagues Paula Reinman, Yem Lagunas , Michelle Klein, Donald Hale, Tori Carter, Kim Simpao, Tymia Wilson and Dustin Loup. Working with such dedicated professionals was a dream come true!” stated Tromelin.
The Marconi Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering innovation and digital inclusivity. We encourage you to visit their website to learn about their initiatives, to include the Marconi Society Young Scholar Award, and to consider supporting them through membership, donation, or sponsorship!
French Youth Linguistic & Cultural Trip
A partnership with Terre des Langues
June 9-30, 2023
For 3 weeks, we coordinated the stay in Arizona of a group of French high school students. Julia, Marie-Alix, Clementine, Edouard, Gabriel, Adrien, and Nohan, were lucky to learn more about the American/Arizona culture thanks to the generosity of their American host families.
With them, they improved their English and discovered the Grand Canyon State. They also traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada. Some of them even traveled to NYC. All of them left saying that they made new friends and that they would remember their stay forever.
We are incredibly grateful to our amazing host families without whom this youth stay would not have been a success. All of our volunteer families also said they learned from our students.
We are proud to announce that our partnership with the French linguistic company Terre des Langues has been renewed for 2024! Please reach out to us at Flora@fctstrategiesllc.com if you are interested in hosting a French student in June 2024.
We are grateful to Professor Ron Broglio
and ASU - Institute for Humanities Research - for our partnership!
As part of their stay, our French guests and their American counterparts visited the Grand Canyon. Professor Ron Broglio and ASU, Institute Humanities Research, partnered with us and joined our group on this 1-day trip. Professor Broglio made a fantastic presentation about the history of the Grand Canyon and the National Park Service, as well as the people who lived there, its endangered species, and its geology. This has been an incredible opportunity for our French guests and their American counterparts!
Ron Broglio writes books and essays on nonhuman phenomenology and animal studies. He has curated and produced a number of art exhibitions on contemporary environmental art. Ron is the director of the Institute Humanities Research at Arizona State University.
He is the author of Animal Revolution and Surface Encounters: thinking with Animals and Art among other books and edited collections including the recently published The Edinburgh Companion to Animal Studies. He co-edits the Desert Humanities book series for Texas Tech University Press.
Baseball Stadium Visit with our French Youth and their Arizona Host Families
June 17, 2023
Did you know that baseball is a growing sport in France? Many of the French High School students who are visiting Arizona throughout the month of June through a French Linguistic and Cultural trip with Terre des Langues were excited to learn about it!
Thanks to a renewed partnership with Global Ties Arizona, our French guests and their local host families have learned everything about Baseball during a tour of Chase Field Stadium in Downtown Phoenix. The visit to this stadium, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks, has been a wonderful way for our youth to learn about this popular American sport and American culture. Heartfelt thanks to Amador Chavez and the Arizona Diamondbacks and Chasefield teams for their generosity and an awesome tour of the stadium Thanks to them we discovered the behind the scene operations and facilities. And the cherry on the cake: our group was invited to stay to watch the game that night!
